Thermal Therapy Precautions and Benefits

  • Will you feel suffocated while being inside Anran’s Thermal Therapy Room?

Rest assured, you won’t feel uncomfortable at all. One of the features of Anran’s Thermal Therapy Room is the releasing of large amounts of negative oxygen ions at as much as 690,000 per cubic cm. Being in our thermal therapy room is like bathing in the forest. Totally natural and refreshing.

  • Will the temperature inside Anran’s Thermal Therapy Room burn your skin?

No, not at all, as the temperature is set at a safe and cosy level of 42 – 46 degrees. We also use the world’s best natural mineral stones and far-infrared materials imported from South Korea. In fact, it helps increase your energy that can last a long time with refreshing effects! Your body will feel as if it was on a constant recharge the whole day, keeping you energised.

  • Will staying in the Thermal Therapy Room for long periods cause headaches?

The effect varies depending on the individual. Our recommended thermal therapy session is 30 – 45 mins. Under normal circumstances, there shouldn’t be any headache. Should you experience one, have a break outside the thermal therapy room and return to it after a few minutes. Generally, headache symptoms will disappear after half an hour.

  • Are thermal therapy sessions suitable for male and female? Which age group is most suitable?

Thermal therapy sessions are suitable for everyone, from aged 3 until 80 years old. It is especially suitable for adults and those who want to prevent premature aging and are lacking in energy. It is also beneficial for people who are usually engaged in intensive mental tasks as well as those recuperating from an illness including post-maternity. Generally, thermal therapy is also useful for beauty purposes (skin care, weight loss, body shaping and face health). Or anyone who just wants to stay hygienic as thermal therapy has good sterilising effects too.

  • Does Anran Thermal Therapy provide weight loss effects?

For overweight people who steam for 45 minutes, they can burn approximately 500 calories and release about 1kg of sweat which is equivalent to what one would shed in a 10km jog. This 1kg of sweat contains all kinds of waste, including large amounts of excess subcutaneous fat. The cells in the body will reach a frictional state 3000 times more than when in a static state. In other words, sitting emits more sweat than when exercising. Hence, regular thermal therapy sessions can help you effectively lose weight, making this type of wellness concept especially suited to today’s lifestyle.

  • How do you feel during a thermal therapy session?

Blood circulation will be activated, releasing sweat from the pores all over your body. Your breathing will be smoother while your body feel lighter and your heart will beat at an increased rate.

  • Why is thermal therapy not suitable during your menstrual period?

We don’t recommend thermal therapy on the 1st day until the 3rd day of your menstrual period, because it speeds up your blood circulation system, which may increase your menstrual flow. Those with a lighter menstrual flow are more suitable to go for a thermal therapy session because the reason their flow is lighter may be due to serious blockage issues. Thermal therapy boosts the blood circulation system, which helps unblock and release unnecessary matter from the body.

Besides that, engaging in thermal therapy during our menstrual period (except for those with lighter menstrual flow) may increase our menstrual flow. Although it’s not a serious issue, but may cause some discomfort and potential health problems:

Anemia: If your menstrual flow is heavy and lasts longer than it should, it may cause excessive iron loss from the body and lead to anemia. Anemia causes symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness and weakness.

Dehydration: Thermal therapy causes the body to sweat a lot, if your menstrual flow increases at the same time, it may lead to the risk of dehydration. Dehydration symptoms include dizziness, mouth dryness and an increased heart rate.

Discomfort: An increased menstrual flow increases the risk of menstrual bleeding, which causes inconvenience and discomfort.

Increased menstrual cramps: Some people may experience an increase in menstrual cramps after a thermal therapy session.

If you’ve decided to go for a Korean-style thermal therapy during your menstrual period, for your well-being, keep these suggestions in mind:

Time limit: Limit your thermal therapy period, avoid being in high temperature environments for long periods of time.

Hydrate: Make sure to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration.

Body reaction: If there’s discomfort or your menstrual flow increases, stop the thermal therapy session immediately.

As a conclusion, avoid thermal therapy on the days where your menstrual flow is heavier. Take note of your physical condition and tolerance level before engaging in any activity that’s in a hot environment. Overall, it depends on the situation, so please consult our consultants for professional advice before going for thermal therapy.

  • Can I go for a thermal therapy session after surgery?

Before your wound fully heals, you can’t go for a thermal therapy session. Below will be the main scenarios:

Wound healing: Surgery wounds need time to heal. Thermal therapy increases the body temperature and leads to excessive sweating, which may affect the wound healing process and increase the risk of infection.

Blood circulation: Thermal therapy increases blood circulation, which may lead to bleeding of the wound after surgery or internal bleeding. Surgeries involving blood vessel and tissue repair carry greater risks.

Physical exertion: The body requires a lot of energy to remedy and recover after surgery, which may lead to excessive fatigue or feeling of weakness, which in turn affects the recovery process.

Risk of dehydration: Stay hydrated after surgery. Thermal therapy makes you sweat a lot, which may lead to dehydration and further affecting recovery after surgery.

Medicinal effects: After surgery, it’s common to be on medications, such as painkillers, antibiotics and more. Thermal therapy may affect the metabolism and effect of drugs, thereby affecting the treatment effects.

It also depends on the individual. We recommend consulting our consultants for professional advice based on your current condition at the given time.

  • Is thermal therapy suitable for people who are weak?

Yes. We recommend thermal therapy to regain your health.

  • What is the main purpose of thermal therapy? Is it for health care or weight loss?

It’s mainly for health maintenance, but you can lose weight at the same time.

  • Will there be no effect after one thermal therapy session?

Based on customer feedback so far, most felt the effect after just one session. Most found that on the day itself, they slept better and felt that their skin has become smoother.

  • Why do I feel tired after thermal therapy?

That’s totally normal. Because in the process of thermal therapy, your pores are actually doing intense exercise, equivalent to jogging for 10km. Naturally, you’ll feel tired.

  • Can I shower immediately after a thermal therapy session?

It’s not recommended to shower within 2 hours aftera thermal therapy session. Our bodies usually detox through breathing, passing urine and sweating. The sweat glands on our bodies will still be sweating while our pores still open, releasing large amounts of toxins. If we shower immediately, it’ll close our pores and sweat glands. Let your body cool down after a thermal therapy session and shower at least 2 hours after. You will then enjoy the full benefits of thermal therapy even better, reversing the negative effects on your body. If you really need to take a shower, best to use warm water.

  • Why do I not feel sticky after a thermal therapy session?

Our bodies usually sweat after our muscles go through intense exercise. Exercising our muscles requires large amounts of minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, boron, selenium, potassium and more. Most of these minerals are acidic, leaving you feeling sticky. The negative ions inside the Thermal Therapy Room neutralise the body’s acidic fluids into alkaline. Alkaline sweat makes the skin smoother, just like how the soap we use is usually alkaline-based too.

  • Why do we need to limit every thermal therapy session? What’s the ideal length of time forone session?

We limit our thermal therapy time mainly out of consideration for our bodies, so that we can avoid excessive dehydration or overheating, leading to adverse effects on our health. Even though thermal therapy brings a lot of benefits like improving blood circulation, detoxifying and relaxing our muscles, being exposed to it for too long may stress the body.

The ideal length of time for thermal therapy depends on the individual. Generally, we recommend thermal therapy for around 30 – 45 minutes which is a sufficient amount of time for the body to get used to the high temperature environment before releasing sweat. At the same time, it won’t overheat or dehydrate your body. However, the ideal length of time may be different for everybody. It depends on the person’s physique, health condition and tolerance to high-temperature environment. The blood circulation cycle in our body takes about 30 – 40 mins, which is also the ideal length of time for a thermal therapy session.

  • Why is there no peculiar odour inside the Thermal Therapy Room?

The negative ions in the thermal therapy room absorb odour, dust and harmful gases, purifying the air. At the same time, they inhibit and kill off bacteria, keeping our thermal therapy room odour-less.

  • Why do we breathe better inside the Thermal Therapy Room?

This is helped by the large number of negative ions inside the thermal therapy room that increases the amount of oxygen absorbed by the lungs by up to 20%-30%.

  • Why do some people release sweat quickly when during thermal therapy, while others require more time?

Regular heavy sweating keeps our sweat glands active. But modern life, especially one spent in air-conditioned environment, has made us too comfortable for too long. As a result, our sweat glands have grown weaker. Those who require more time to sweat are usually those with closed sweat glands. It is best that they opt for multiple thermal therapy sessions to open their pores as it helps in detoxification.

  • How does thermal therapy help in beautifying and body shaping?

Being inside a thermal therapy room helps promote metabolism, quickly enhancing the strength of aging skin cells in a process known as keratinisation. Negative ions repair elastic fibres which then help tighten sagging skin and reduce wrinkles. Apart from that, the nano drinking water provided in the thermal therapy room has small nano water molecules which can be absorbed by the skin after 20 – 30 mins of consumption, making your skin more supple after thermal therapy.

The wavelength of biological waves inside the thermal therapy room is similar to that of our body’s radiation, which causes the lipid substances in the body to vibrate strongly, generating a large amount of energy to burn the excess fat in the body and blood. This is how thermal therapy helps in body-shaping.

  • Why does thermal therapy improve the function of our respiratory system?

Negative ions aid the respiratory system in secreting large amounts of mucosal tissue and absorb the dust and bacteria in the air, reducing the damage caused by air pollution to the respiratory system. When there’s an increase in mucosal tissue, it helps expel phlegm from the body, allowing the respiratory system to increase oxygen absorption and release carbon monoxide.

  • Why does thermal therapy reduce and remove blood lipids?

Promote blood circulation: Thermal therapy in a high temperature environment makes the blood vessels expand, improving blood circulation, increasing blood flow and lowering blood lipids.

Encourage sweating: Thermal therapy helps increase the body’s metabolic process, stimulating sweat glands and detoxifying toxins and waste through the skin. The waste and toxins in the body can be effectively removed, clearing impurities and reducing lipid accumulation in the blood vessels.

Increase metabolic rate: Thermal therapy in high temperature environment promotes the body’s metabolism and fat burning. This helps decrease the accumulation of fat in the body and lower blood lipid levels.

Promote cardiovascular health: Thermal therapy helps maintain the health of the cardiovascular system, improve blood circulation and removing impurities in the blood vessels. By reducing blood lipids and eliminating blood clots, it helps prevent arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases.

Blood clots are the deposits on the inner walls of the blood vessels, comprising cholesterol, calcium and other substances. These deposits can turn into plaque on the inner walls of the blood vessels, known as atherosclerosis plaque. After some time, the lipids will gradually increase, leading to the narrowing and hardening of blood vessels, which may eventually lead to cardiovascular conditions such as angina, myocardial infarction, and stroke. For good cardiovascular health, it’s crucial to remove blood clots from the blood vessels.

In conclusion, thermal therapy improves general health by promoting blood circulation, boosting metabolism and releasing sweat, reducing blood lipids and removing blood clots.

  • Why is thermal therapy not suitable for pregnant women?

Being in a thermal therapy room accelerates the circulatory system, increasing energy and oxygen supply, which can then put a strain on both mum and baby.

  • Why can’t patients with cardiac encephalopathy and hypertension go for thermal therapy?

Increases the strain on blood vessels: Thermal therapy in a high temperature environment leads to the expansion of blood vessels and may increase blood pressure. Patients with cardiac encephalopathy, hypertension and heart-related diseases are already facing cardiovascular system issues. Further stress on their condition may cause adverse reactions, such as pressure overload of the heart, arrhythmia and more.

Increases the burden on the heart: The body regulates its temperature under high temperatures through sweating, but excessive sweating may lead to dehydration that increases the strain on the heart, causing adverse effects on the heart.

Increases health risks: Under high temperatures, patients with cardiac encephalopathy and hypertension are prone to symptoms such as dizziness and vertigo, which may even lead to a heart attack or stroke. These patients may be at higher risk of negative reaction should they go for thermal therapy.

Medical advice: Generally, medical specialists would recommend cardiac encephalopathy and hypertension patients to seek doctor’s evaluation before thermal therapy. This is important to determine if thermal therapy is suitable and to provide guidance based on health condition and medical history.

In summary, for cardiovascular health of patients with cardiac encephalopathy and hypertension, thermal therapy may increase strain on the system with risk of adverse effects.

  • Why does thermal therapy help lighten blemishes?

Promotes blood circulation: Thermal therapy in a high temperature environment leads to the expansion of blood vessels and promotes blood circulation. This will increase the skin’s blood flow so that the transportation of nutrients and the excretion of waste products help improve skin texture and reduce pigmentation.

Boosts metabolism: Thermal therapy promotes the body’s metabolism process, supporting cell regeneration and repair. This helps speed up the skin’s renewal cycle, reduce aging and pigmentation on the skin’s surface, resulting in smoother and more even skin.

Promotes detoxification: Thermal therapy will open the sweat glands to release sweat, which helps remove the toxins and waste from the body. This will help purify the skin and remove accumulated toxin, reducing skin pigmentation and the formation of spots.

Enhances skin radiance: Through thermal therapy, it helps improve blood circulation and metabolism, enhances skin radiance and elasticity. It also reduces skin dullness and uneven skin tone, making the skin look healthier and younger.

While thermal therapy can lighten blemishes, do take note that the effect of lightening may vary from person to person, depending on the individual’s skin condition and type of spot. To achieve optimal results, thermal therapy usually needs to be continuous over a period of time and combined with adequate skin care and sun protection.

  • Why does a Herxheimer reaction occur after thermal therapy?

A Herxheimer Reaction refers to the physiological or physical reactions that occur to some people during or after thermal therapy, such as dizziness or heaviness in the head. This means the patient may develop high blood pressure or cardiovascular issues, considered as one of the Herxheimer reactions.

Going for continuous thermal therapy effectively improves and slows down these Herxheimer reactions. These conditions are the body telling us that it is slowly healing the problem areas through thermal therapy.

Herxheimer Reaction is the human cell’s process of self-regulation. This cell regeneration journey is a sign of our body responding to the treatment and healing itself.

  • Why is thermal therapy beneficial for allergy reactions?

The cause of allergies is mainly due to an enzyme metabolism disorder in our body. Negative ions and biological waves can help regulate the normal metabolism of human enzymes and reduce or eliminate allergies.

  • Why is thermal therapy beneficial for people with Uremia?

It helps excrete excess water, minerals and toxins from the body in the form of sweat to reduce the harm that dialysis can have on the body.

  • Why is thermal therapy beneficial for people suffering from a cold?

Negative ions and biological waves can effectively kill cold viruses. Sweating under high temperatures can also reduce cold symptoms.

  • How does thermal therapy improve breast lobular hyperplasia?

The main cause of breast lobular hyperplasia is excessive free radicals in the human body. Negative ions in the thermal therapy room can effectively eliminate these free radicals and play a role in preventing and providing supporting treatment for this condition.

  • How does thermal therapy promote wound healing?

When a wound is healing, it requires a lot of nutrients such as protein, vitamins and minerals. These nutrients are mainly transported through the blood. Biological waves can help promote blood circulation, while negative ions increase the blood oxygen capacity, providing the wound with necessary nutrients.

  • How does thermal therapy improve gastrointestinal function?

Biological waves can promote blood circulation in the digestive tract, improving digestion and absorption abilities. Negative ions can regulate nerve reflexes in the intestine, promote bowel movements and improve gastrointestinal functions.

  • Why does thermal therapy improve sleep quality?

Insomnia is mainly caused by neurological disorders, reduced melatonin secretion, high work pressure and many other reasons. Melatonin is a type of hormone secreted by the pineal gland which regulates the body clock and plays a key role in our sleep cycle. Under dark conditions at night, the pineal gland secretes melatonin, which makes us feel sleepy and help us fall asleep. However, when a person is exposed to light, especially blue light from electronic devices, the secretion of melatonin from the pineal gland is inhibited.

Thermal therapy rooms are usually a dark environment where people won’t be using electronic devices. This environment reduces the inhibition of melatonin secretion. That’s how thermal therapy rooms help maintain or promote normal melatonin secretion levels, improve sleep quality and regulate one’s body clock.
The negative ions in the thermal therapy room can also effectively regulate the nervous system, stimulate the secretion of melatonin, relieve fatigue and stress, and in turn, improve sleep quality.

  • How is thermal therapy beneficial for people with pharyngitis?

With its sterilisation abilities, thermal therapy can effectively inhibit bacterial growth and eliminate harmful free radicals and positively charged ions in the human body. With the temperature in thermal therapy rooms being the same as that of the environment inside our throat, thermal therapy can help treat pharyngitis.

  • Why does thermal therapy relieve gout symptoms?

Promotes detoxification and purification: High temperature inside the thermal therapy room help the body release sweat. The releasing of large amounts of sweat helps eliminate metabolic waste and toxins from the body, including uric acid crystals that cause gout.

Improves blood circulation: High temperature environment leads to the expansion of blood vessels, promoting blood circulation. Good blood circulation helps transfer nutrients and oxygen to the affected joints while removing waste and inflammatory substances in the joints at the same time, reducing inflammation and pain.

Relieves muscle tension: High temperature can relax the muscles and reduce muscle tension and pain. Gout patients will experience less pain and discomfort.

Reduces stress and provides relaxation: Stress and anxiety may aggravate gout symptoms. The hot environment inside thermal therapy rooms releases physical and psychological tension, relaxing the body and mind.

Thermal therapy promotes detoxification, improves blood circulation, relieves muscle tension, reduces stress and more, minimising gout symptoms and providing patients with a better quality of life.

  • Why does thermal therapy improve liver function?

Sweating while undergoing thermal therapy removes a large amount of toxins from body fluids and blood, reducing the burden on the liver and kidneys and effectively promoting liver and kidney function. As a traditional health therapy, even though thermal therapy focuses on sweat release, it is also considered beneficial for overall health, including the liver.

Here’s how how thermal therapy may improve liver function:

Promotes detoxification and sweating: The body removes toxins and waste through sweating, reducing the strain on the liver. Even if there’s a limit to how much toxins the sweat glands can excrete, it still adds to the overall detoxification process.

Improves and increases blood circulation: Thermal therapy heats up the body, expands the blood vessels and promotes blood circulation. This helps improve blood supply to the liver, increasing the supply of nutrients and oxygen to liver cells, thus promoting liver function.

Reduces stress and relaxes the body: Thermal therapy helps reduce physical and mental stress. When stress is reduced, even our liver is protected, as chronic stress and tension can be detrimental to liver health.

Promotes and improves metabolism: Thermal therapy speeds up the metabolism and helps the body process and eliminate metabolic waste more effectively, indirectly supporting the detoxification and metabolic functions of the liver.

Enhances and improves the immune system: Thermal therapy raises the body’s temperature and stimulates the immune system, helping us maintain our overall health, including our liver.

  • How does thermal therapy help improve menstrual pain?

A woman’s body is considered cold. Here’s how thermal therapy helps with menstrual pain:

Improves blood circulation: Thermal therapy heats up the body, expands the blood vessels and promotes blood circulation. This helps transfer the oxygen and nutrients to the uterus and pelvic area, while removing waste and inflammatory substances. A good blood circulation can reduce vasoconstriction and spasm in the uterus, reducing menstrual cramps.

Relaxes muscles: High temperature environments can relax our muscles, including those surrounding the pelvis and uterus. Muscle relaxation can reduce uterine cramping and tension, reducing menstrual cramp.

Releases tension and stress: Menstrual pain may be affected by mood and stress. The warmth in the thermal therapy room helps release physical and mental tension and stress. Relaxation to reduce stress can help relieve symptoms of dysmenorrhea.

Promotes hormone balance: Thermal therapy may help balance the body’s hormone levels, including hormones during a woman’s menstrual cycle. This helps reduce symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menstrual cramps.

Korean-style thermal therapy can help improve dysmenorrhea symptoms by promoting blood circulation, relaxing muscles, releasing tension and promoting hormone balance. However, depending on each individual or special circumstances, the effects may vary from person to person.

About Thermal Therapy

  • What is Korean Khan Steam?

It’s a type of traditional Korean sauna where people wear linen clothing and sit in a high temperature environment built of yellow mud and medicinal stones. When the stones reflect far infrared rays and heat to produce high temperatures, our body will sweat generously within a short span of time, eliminating fatigue and relieving stress.

  • Is Korean Khan Steam from Korea?

Yes, it is. It has evolved from the ancient yellow mud steaming to today’s highly effective multi-purpose “cell bath”. It’s by being in a thermal therapy room that the far infrared rays can penetrate deep into the layers of the skin, warming up cells and opening pores. This process promotes blood circulation and eliminates rheumatism and cold toxins in the human body.

  • What are the differences between Anran’s Thermal Therapy Room and Korea’s Korean Khan Steam Room?

Anran’s Thermal Therapy Room is based on the traditional thermal therapy room method, using a high-quality raw material known as schorl combined with advanced technology for heating and insulation. The energy from schorl is released through fast and powerful rays of far infrared, negative ions and microcurrent.

The energy formed can indirectly bring energy to the human body through the air, energising human cells into an active state, accelerating the body’s blood circulation and metabolism to expel toxins from the body, balance the body’s pH and replenish it with nutrients.

The advantage of thermal therapy is in its all-in-one combination of “far infrared rays”, “air vitamins”, “cell activators” and “blood vessel scavengers”.

  • What makes Anran’s thermal therapy stand out from other thermal therapies?
